David Mitchell founded Waypoint Consulting after practicing law in Richmond, Virginia from 2015 to 2023. He began his legal career at a "big law" firm, before moving to a small estate planning and family law practice. David also served as General Counsel to the Richmond Police Department for several years.
David was born in Huntington Beach, California, but spent most of his formative years in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he developed a love for the outdoors, as well as a dedication to public service. David is an Eagle Scout and joined the U.S. Army just days after 9/11. He was a paratrooper in the Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division and served combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq.
After leaving the Army, David earned his undergraduate degree in criminal justice from Weber State University, where he graduated summa cum laude. He then put his education to work when he served as a police officer in Sandy City, Utah. During this time, David earned his masters degree in criminal justice from Weber State University.
David graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2015. During his time at UVA Law, David served as the president of the Virginia Law Veterans and was awarded the prestigious Ritter Award for honor, character and integrity.
In his free time, David enjoys traveling, exercising, hunting, camping and spending time with his family.
